Down on his luck and living in his car, Shawn knew that as an Indigenous man his odds of surviving were low. Times were tough for the Mununjali and Palawa man.
Fast forward fourteen years, and today the DHUWA Coffee director has not only beaten the odds but is working to end Indigenous disadvantage in Australia and around the world.
Now a Monash University and Murra Indigenous Business Master Class graduate, Shawn is creating opportunities for Australia’s most disconnected Indigenous youth to connect to Country and Culture and helping bridge the gap between his community and non-Indigenous people.
In 2014 he established Indigicate to shift the negative narrative of Indigenous Australians through a range of education programs. In 2019 partnered with a group of fellow Indigenous Australians to launch successful procurement company Supply Aus. And in 2020 formed Dreaming Futures to create opportunities for Indigenous youth to connect with Culture. Now he’s partnered with Australia’s oldest coffee roasters, Griffiths Bros, and launched DHUWA Coffee.
